You choose how each assignment is graded and who stands behind the grade.
For each assignment you choose how the student's work is graded: AI-graded and human-confirmed, fully by people, or fully by AI, against your rubrics or ones we draft and you approve. The student is whoever takes the course, at a university or a company.

Three ways to grade, set assignment by assignment.
AI-graded and human-confirmed
The AI scores the work against the rubric and writes the feedback. A person on your staff confirms the grade.
Fully by people
Your instructors or graders read the work and assign the grade.
Fully by AI
The AI scores the work against the rubric, and the score is recorded with no second reader. It is used only where you choose it.
Rubrics
From 1 to 5 criteria. The scale has 5 levels, or 2 for work that is complete or incomplete.
Graded or pass/fail
Each activity is fully graded or pass/fail, and you set how much each kind of work counts toward the final grade.
Gradebook
Scores reach the gradebook in your LMS.
Your faculty or experts approve the rubrics. Alma’s learning engineers do the setup.
Grading is one of 4 decisions in the design step
It arrives as a short menu with our recommendation.
Rubrics are yours, or drafted for your approval
Bring the rubrics you use. Where there are none, we draft them to your standard, and your faculty or experts approve them before production starts.
At a university, which work AI grades is the institution's decision
The AI works from the rubric your faculty approved, and grading judgment stays with them. Where the instructor of record should stand behind a grade, choose AI-graded and human-confirmed, or grading fully by people.
At a company, the rubric is the standard your experts set
Your experts say what good looks like, and each piece of work is scored against it.
Two questions people ask about AI and grades.
Do students know when AI graded their work?
Yes. The page where work is handed in says when it goes to an AI grading assistant.
Can an instructor change a grade?
Yes. A person can grade the work, grade it with the AI's suggestion in front of them, or adjust a grade the AI gave, changing the score and the comments where needed. You choose which, for each assignment. Work graded fully by AI has no second reader, so choose one of the others wherever a person should stand behind the grade.
